Located in the North Kuta / Seminyak area, Pison is a rustic cafe with a few different seating options. Indoors sit at one of the small two- to four-top tables and enjoy a Green Tea Latte with your Watermelon and Feta Salad. Or head to the lofted upstairs area and get comfy on a couch or plug-in under one of the wooden desks overlooking the downstairs area. Outside there’s a few more seating options, and a place for smokers to get a quick hit of nicotine or simply enjoy the outdoors.
This place can get a bit busy, though the relatively stable and moderately fast WiFi makes up for it. The sounds of lightly clanking silverware and smooth jazz which can be heard playing over the speakers weekday evenings, make any hint of the bustle melt away like ice on a hot day. On the weekends you can catch live bands in the evening – a nice signal it’s time to stop working and start enjoying the music. And though the place is a bit small in a cozy way, there were ample fans attached to the walls to keep fresh air circulating and send pleasant smells your way if you’d already blocked out the light clanking of spoons on ceramic.
One thing that stuck with me during my visit to Pison was the staff. They were not as friendly as I’m used to. Perhaps I came on an odd day, but I tend to expect more smiles from baristas and waitstaff – something that seems to have been lost here, at least when I went.
A small gripe I had about the location was the bathroom. There was only one, and it required a trip outside to get there. There is a reward, however, in that you get to make a pass through a dutch door to access the toilet – befitting of the rustic nature of Pison.
